SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’, ‘Nerf Legends’, and Today’s Other Releases and Sales TouchArcade – Touch…

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 19th, 2021. In todays article, weve got a whole mess of new releases to look at. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are at the head of the class, but NASCAR Heat Ultimate Edition+ and Nerf Legends arent far behind. There are also a number of interesting-looking smaller titles well be checking out. Then there are the sales. While the Black Friday sales didnt hit as I thought they might, we still have a bunch of discounts to sift through. Lets get to work!

SwitchArcade Highlight!

For better or worse, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are here. These are rather modest remakes by the standards of the series, but they at least give you a new way to play these games with fresh graphics and a few expanded features. We will probably have a review of this at some point, but it really is what it seems to be and not a whole lot more than that. Certainly a nice breather after punishing oneself with the extremely challenging Shin Megami Tensei V, if nothing else.

SwitchArcade Highlight!

NASCAR racing hits the Switch in an officially-licensed racer from Motorsport Games and 704Games Company. Put the wheels to the asphalt in thirty-nine official tracks including the Daytona International Speedway, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Talladega Superspeedway. There are even some dirt tracks to race on. A full career mode is included, but if you feel like going against other players there is a local splitscreen mode for two and an online mode for up to sixteen players at once. I havent been able to play the Switch version yet, but this series is pretty good on other platforms.

Arm yourself with fifteen different NERF blasters based on the real toys in this fast-paced first-person shooter. Collect power-ups, travel across a variety of locations, and go face to face with a wide array of opponents. The game supports up to eight players via online multiplayer, and thats probably where youll want to spend most of your time. Probably isnt going to give DOOM Eternal a run for its money, but I think theres a market for this kind of less-violent take on the genre.

This weeks driving game doesnt even bother with an unusual theme. Just driving in the city with traffic, as one does. The usual structure applies. There are ten vehicles to use, a bunch of missions to complete, and a reasonably-sized open area to drive around in until you get bored or the next game comes out. Which will probably be next week. At least it doesnt have to hold the fort too long.

Another pack of previously-released pinball games. Six titles in total: Soccer Pinball, Touchdown Pinball, Basketball Pinball, Jurassic Pinball, Safari Pinball, and Shark Pinball. If you catch it on sale, this will likely be the cheapest way to score these tables. Assuming you want to, anyway.

Hey, its another Poker game. Texas Holdem, eh? We only have about a dozen or so of those. This one also gives you Omaha Holdem, so thats something. Up to six people can play in local multiplayer, or you can battle against the AI at five different difficulty levels. There are various tables, floors, and card designs to choose from to slightly customize the experience. Nothing we havent seen before, and nothing we wont see again Im quite sure.

We already saw Franks Story earlier this year, and now weve got Leos Family to contend with. Gameplay-wise, this is even simpler than the previous game. Which is to say that youre mostly watching a story play out with rather minimal interactions. There is a decent story in here, and I find the visuals appealing in their own way. Unfortunately, that story is buried behind some rather questionable writing. If youre willing to forgive its grammatical sins and dig gangster tales, you may appreciate this well enough.

A rather simple shooter where you defeat the enemies by stretching a deadly wire around the screen to wipe them out. There are lots of upgrades to buy, and while its all rather mindless there is a certain pleasure to it. Battle as long as you can, use your newly-gathered resources to upgrade your ship and get power-ups, then do it all again. You can actually get this on Steam for under a buck most days, so if youre okay playing on your computer you may want to do that. Not bad, though.

This is a low-cost first-person platformer where you have to pull off parkour-style moves to make your way from one point to the next. Sometimes there are multiple routes to the goal, so keep your eyes peeled for shortcuts. There are quite a few levels to play, making this a rather good value for your money.

Another small bite from the folks at QUByte, this is a shooter of sorts where you proceed through each level on a rail, trying to blast everything in your path. You have five different weapons at your disposal, and you can upgrade each of them as you go. You can also upgrade your vehicle with shields, better wheels, and more. Not a whole lot to it, but I suppose for the price there doesnt have to be.

A rather mediocre first-person shooter that was ported over from a free-to-play mobile game, Dead Effect 2 sports decent visuals but not much else in its favor. Battle space zombies on a derelict ship using a wide assortment of weapons. Its incredibly grind-heavy, which makes sense given its origins. Maybe at a lower price I could see possibly taking a swing on this, but for twenty dollars there are far, far better things you could be playing in this genre. If youre interested, give it a go on your mobile device and see how it grabs you.

This is a decent little deck-building game with a unique theme. All of the enemies are psychology-based, and so are the cards in your deck. So you might defeat a phobia using dreams or hugs, for example. You have to make your way through the maze of your own mind and defeat all the terrible things that lurk within. Reviews for this game on other platforms were decent but not spectacular, but I think fans of deck-builders who are looking for something a little different will get the most out of it.

As it says, this is an airport simulator where you have to manage things around the clock. That involves everything from managing the fleet and customers baggage to de-icing airplane wings and cleaning the interiors of the planes. Theres quite a bit to juggle here, and as you might expect no one particular activity is all that deep. Still, theres plenty to keep you on your toes as you deal with a variety of weather conditions and times of day. Rather well-done as these things go.

Play alone or with a friend in what looks to be a rather standard top-down arcade-puzzle game. You get eighty levels set across eight different worlds, with lots of blocks to manipulate, traps to avoid, and other gimmicks to deal with. Theres also a versus battle mode if you dont feel like cooperating with your pal. Its a bit of Sokoban, a bit of Bomberman, and a bit of its own thing.

This appears to be a bog-standard adventure game set in a haunted wax museum. Pick up objects, solve puzzles, and try to get out alive. As you play, youll discover documents that detail the story of this peculiar museum and how it came to be the way it is. If this genre is the kind of meal you dig, a fiver seems fine for this.

I get that horny games are kind of eastasiasofts bread and butter these days, but if your game is selling on sex appeal, you would at least think the art would be a bit better. Like the ladies in this game look like they were drawn by an average junior high-schooler. Im sorry if the artist is reading this or something, but its just how I feel. Anyway, play a bland platformer, collect the ladies in each stage, unlock pictures of the ladies, and see if you can improve on your times if that is something you like to do. Thats about it.

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Thats a big list, and its not even the Black Friday bunch yet. Plenty of good games to be found in there, from Darkest Dungeon to Earth Defense Force World Brothers and everything in between. Not sure why those are the bookends. They just are. Roll with it. There isnt too much in the weekend outbox to be fussed about, but if you want to grab NEO: The World Ends With You at its discounted price you need to act soon.
